Enhancing Warehouse Operations for the U.S. Marine Corps in San Diego with RFID Integration

RFRain partnered with KPMG to deliver an RFID-based warehouse modernization project for the U.S. Marine Corps in San Diego, focused on improving asset visibility, accelerating inventory processes, and integrating real-time data into existing enterprise systems.

Warehouse operations relied heavily on manual processes, making it time-consuming to count assets, identify discrepancies, and maintain accurate records. Limited system integration also created gaps between physical inventory and ERP data, reducing operational efficiency and visibility.

To address these challenges, RFRain deployed a fully integrated RFID solution designed to automate tracking and streamline data flow.

With RFID-enabled tracking in place, the Marine Corps can now count assets on pallets in seconds instead of hours. The system automatically identifies missing items and discrepancies, eliminating the need for manual reconciliation. Real-time tracking ensures that every asset movement is recorded, allowing operators to quickly determine the last known location of any item and locate misplaced assets with minimal effort.

A key component of this implementation was the integration between RFRain Web Services (RWS) and the customer’s Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) ERP system. Asset data captured through RFID is automatically pushed into D365, ensuring accurate, up-to-date records across both operational and enterprise systems without manual data entry.

The solution also enables real-time deployment readiness by comparing required assets against available inventory on-site. This provides immediate insight into operational status and supports faster, more informed decision-making.

RFRain delivered the project end to end, including RFID hardware, software, cloud platform, installation, commissioning, integration, and ongoing support. The result is a unified system that improves accuracy, reduces labor, and enhances overall operational control.

Key Results:

  • Reduced pallet-level asset counting from hours to seconds
  • Automated identification of missing items and discrepancies
  • Enabled real-time tracking of asset location and movement
  • Integrated RFID data directly into Microsoft Dynamics 365
  • Eliminated manual data entry between systems
  • Delivered accurate, real-time deployment readiness insights

This implementation demonstrates how RFID, combined with seamless ERP integration, can transform warehouse operations into a fully connected, data-driven environment.

RFRain continues to support organizations like the U.S. Marine Corps with scalable RFID solutions that improve visibility, streamline operations, and integrate seamlessly with enterprise system
